“I had seen him at Town Hall in New York. I was taken there by Peter, Paul and Mary. They knew him very well. I’d heard about him, so I said, ‘Okay, let’s go.’ The first half of the show he sang a lot of traditional blues songs. Of course, I knew them backwards and forwards, so I was not impressed at all. Watered down versions. What is this guy doing? They said, ‘Wait until the second half.’ The second half he came out and sang ‘The Times They Are A Changing,’ ‘With God On Our Side,’ ‘Masters of War,’ ‘Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright’….I looked like alfalfa by then. Four songs in, I was having trouble breathing.”
