STRAY THOUGHTS CONJURED WHILE WATCHING THE APARTMENT ON A RAINY AFTERNOON….(And Then There Was Hollywood: Seventh Rumination)

Was Shirley MacLaine literally the best thing about every single movie she was ever in?

And, if so, is she the only person in the history of movies who can make that claim?

Just wondering.

  1. She was!
    And, let’s see, who else?
    Um, Elvis!
I admit his movies are not in the same class as Ms MacLaine’s, but looking at him is the reason I have watched them all, multiple times.
    You saw this coming, right?

    • Hah! Good Catch…I kinda forgot about strictly star vehicles…and Elvis might have been the only big star who was never in anything else (Love Me Tender possibly excepted…though it was, too, by the time it was released!). …Which tells us something about Elvis…and why he was the only person who could have turned the common euphemism for charisma from “movie star” to “rock star!”

  2. Very Profound! On both Shirley (Johnny) and Elvis ( Peggy). Something tells me that Shirley just might come back and do it again! As for Elvis……..There is only ‘One King’! TCB!
